Have you ever wondered how to paint brick? Have you ever wanted to give your fireplace an upgrade that didn’t cost an arm and a leg?
I recently painted my fireplace and mantel and the results are amazing! It was such a fun and easy project that really changed the way the living room looks!

The first thing that you want to do is clean the brick on your fireplace really well. You want to get as much dirt and dust off of it as possible. To do this, I used a wet towel to wipe down each individual brick.
Once the brick is clean, you want to tape off the edges of the fireplace, walls and floor to make sure that you don’t get paint anywhere else.
Now it’s time to put the primer on. For the primer, the best brand that I found for painting brick is Kilz brand primer. The primer helps the paint adhere to the surface of the brick, so you want to make sure that you get good coverage when you are painting the primer. I did two coats of primer just to make sure that all of the brick was fully covered.
If you want to paint your mantel, too, now is the time! All you need to do is sand down the wood to get the layer of sealer off. Then apply 2-3 coast of the same type of paint (latex indoor paint) in whatever color you choose.
Clean up and enjoy!!!
